The Start of a Blog
I’m starting a blog. I had fought so hard against this. I created my website www.liveandlearnwithlola.com by writing my website in blog style prose, but organizing everything by category and subcategory so that you can easily find everything you’re looking for. I didn’t want to spill random words on a screen, but recently some events have made me change my mind.
It turns out, as a public speaker, people want to get to know the real you. They say it helps them connect and feel motivated when they realize that you are just an average person. That you have struggles and overcome them and that your life isn’t perfect. That by sharing these things, I can better motivate them. What better way to share your life to all of the world on an open stage than with an online diary? So here goes.
Closets have been an important part of my life for many years and their importance increases continuously. I decided to name this blog “The Closet” not because I started dating a woman for the first time this year, essentially coming out of the closet, or should I say not only because of this. I am a professional organizer and as such have spent significant time in closets of others. However, I find that the closets in my own home are an accurate reflection of my current life condition. When everything is coasting along smoothly, the closets are organized and everything is in its place. When the closets are in disarray, well, so is my life.
So that you can visualize what I’m talking about, here are pictures of the main two closets in my home. I’ll let you deduce the status of my life.
I’m sure you noticed that the first closet is half empty. The first girlfriend I was telling you about? She just moved out this weekend. The second closet is the aftereffect of an international art exhibit featuring my artwork last week. In the preparation for it, and then the coming home and tossing everything in the closet, I haven’t made time to get it straightened out.
Closet status: 1/2 Empty and 1/2 Chaotic.
