Have you ever found yourself digging through your purse in an endless search to find your keys? Your wallet? Your phone while it’s ringing? We’ve all been there! In this article, I’ll teach you some tricks I’ve adopted over time to find things in your purse easily and quickly.
The most important thing is to know what is in your purse at all times! This task sounds a lot harder than it actually is. To begin, gather every purse that is collecting items right now and dump them out! The hardest thing to find in your purse is the thing you actually left in a different purse.
So, have everything in front of you yet? Time to sort and organize! First of all, get rid of all items that are actually garbage (we all have some of those!). Then remove everything from your purse that just doesn’t belong and put it away throughout the house. For now, set aside receipts and paperwork, for more tips on how to organize those items, read about organizing Files.
Once you have all of your purse items gathered, it is time to find them a home, hint: this won’t be in a purse! I first learned this trick by watching a friend empty his pockets when he got home. He has convenient shelves in his wardrobe where he stores everything that belongs in his pockets. He always knew where his things were and he never did mad dashes around the house to find items before walking out the door. I was so envious, I wanted that!
So, I found the empty top of a dresser hidden away and claimed it!
Every day when I get home, I immediately empty my purse, do not pass Go, do not collect $200. There are so many benefits, besides not running around to find everything in the morning. If you have a job (or life!) like mine, you often find that you need different items on different days. For example, if I am going to be organizing a toy room, I definitely need my label maker! If I am going to be moving someone, I need a marker and tape measure. There is nothing worse than getting to a job and realizing I don’t have what I need. Now that I lay everything out and spend 3 minutes packing my purse every morning with my exact agenda in mind, I always have everything I need!
You will also soon get out of the rut of using the same purse every day! Trust me, I’ve been there, it’s easier to use the same purse you’ve been using all week (or month) just so you don’t have to switch all of the items. Now that you are going to pack fresh every morning, every purse is treated equally. Additionally, it allows you to take smaller purses when you are making quick trips because you only grab the items you need! Plus, by emptying your purse every night you will no longer carry that empty gum wrapper around with you for the next three weeks.
So now that you’ve picked everything out, how do you find it easily once it’s inside the purse? The first step is to get purses with pockets! They can be a girl’s best friend in a hurry. For the items you need all of the time (cell phone, wallet, keys) utilize the pockets! Try to use the same pocket for the same thing every day and in every purse. For example, I ALWAYS use the large zip pocket in every purse for my wallet. Not only can I find it quickly, but on most purses I can quickly “feel” the outside of the purse and be able to tell the wallet is there. Most of my purses have one or two other little compartments in the front. I use one for my cellphone and the other for my lip gloss and keys.
Purses that are separated into two compartments are awesome as well! I like to separate mine between personal items and my lunch when I have the option. You can also use separate sections for business files, baby items, etc. Getting your purse organized is a big step in living a clutter-free life, happy no-more-hunting!
