Clean Off The Counters
Perhaps the most important thing you can do to organize your bathroom, is to clean off the counters! This is something I often recommend when staging a home for sale, but something that can be a practical alternative in everyday life. I like to have everything easily accessible in my bathroom; I don’t want to dig around every time I need something. It sounds reasonable, but my counter ended up looking cluttered.
I was on the search for a solution. I found it in a simple canvas bin. I use two, one for the items I use multiple times a day, and another for the items I use frequently, but not as much. When I’m not in the bathroom, they slide under the counter easily.
If I need an item quickly, I can just reach in the bin and grab it, just as easily as I could when it was sitting on the counter. When I’m getting ready in the morning or before bed, I simply pull the bin out and have everything I need!
Tackle Under The Sink
If you’re anything like me, underneath your sink may have at one point looked like a bomb explosion.
If so, not to fear! In this section we’ll talk about some solutions for organizing under the sink. The first solution: Bins! Plastic containers are a great way to make sure that everything has a place and everything is in its place. The second very helpful piece to have underneath your sink is a shelf! I was really lucky in that my apartment already had this shelf built in, if you don’t already have a shelf, you can build one or buy one.
When building, be careful about nailing or screwing anything into the walls. Since we are talking about underneath a sink, there are many pipes and potentially electrical wires to worry about. The safer alternative is to purchase shelves that stand on their own above other items and to utilize the space above and below the shelves with bins.
When organizing items under your sink, or anywhere for that matter, group first. Put like items together in piles. Plastic baggies are also helpful at this stage to make keep small items together. The reason you will group first, is so that you will know what kind of storage containers will be best for your items and the sizes you will need. If you are out of a certain item, or know that you usually have more of one thing than you do right now, keep that in mind before purchasing containers.
I love clear containers. Don’t get me wrong, I label EVERYTHING, but being able to see what is inside of a container can be useful. When you’ve purchased containers and labeled them, put them into bins, don’t just let them float around. Plastic bins with pull out drawers can be really useful for this!
Now, the cabinet under my sink is much better. I can find everything I need and I know where to put everything when I’m done. It doesn’t get any better than that!
The One Container Every Girl Should Own
After years of buying bags/boxes of feminine products and tossing them under the sink, I realized one thing: I could never find them when I needed them! Unfortunately, when you need one of these things, you desperately need it and you need it now! When I finally went to gather all of my supplies into one place, I realized I had three half-used containers of the same type of pad, ridiculous. I vowed never to let this happen again and went on the search for the perfect container to organize feminine products.
Happily, I found it on the shelves of Walmart®, the trusted Caboodles® brand that I had loved in childhood. You can find it in the products section of their website under “Classic Cases”. This container is the perfect way to separate all of your different girl accessories out, while still keeping them together. The top level is perfect for tampons and panty liners. If you use tampons with applicators, they’ll fit in the main top section and you can store your liners to the left. The bottom section not only fits an entire container of pads, it also has room in the back for hidden girl items such as pregnancy tests, ovulation tests and feminine wipes. All of the room, but still some privacy!
In case the pink girly container isn’t enough to keep the boys in your life out, add a cute “Girls Only” sticker to the outside. That way boys know they’re opening it at their own risk and they’re likely to stay away!
